Our volunteer machinists are starting to produce new parts to replace worn or damaged originals.
The picture on the right shows a new trailing truck spring hanger bolt. The bolt passes through a coil spring and allows the tension on the spring to be adjusted by turning a large nut on the screw threaded end.
The screw threads on the original were very badly corroded and unsuitable for re-use.

The photo on the left shows the new trailing truck pivot pin next to the worn original.
The pivot pin fits into the front of the trailing truck attaching it to the locomotive and as its name suggests, allows the truck to pivot on it. The truck is also attached at the rear by a large fixed pin passing through the side control gear (see 4th Dec. 2009 page).
