One of our regular volunteers is painting his way through the twenty four cylinder cladding sections.

The view on the right shows the superb finish achieved on a section that fits on top of one of the cylinder ends.

The cylinder cladding is the metal sheeting that covers the cylinder casting, its primary purpose being to retain any insulating (or lagging ) material around the cylinder. Its secondary purpose is to improve the appearance of the locomotive and provide a smooth surface to aid cleaning.
