Tender

Work continues on the tender, with all the tank bolt holes adjusted to align with the holes in the frame and large sealing washers machined, which completes the kit of parts required to bolt the tank fully down.

The large cast sump which is the take off point for the injector water supply pipes has had rubber seals made and a new hinge pin machined for the sump lid. Once we have sourced new stud bolts, this can be permanently fitted and much of the brake gear then fitted. To this end, the hand brake bracket and associated parts have been trial fitted to the tender front, grease nipples have been fitted to all of the brake hangers and the rear brake cylinder brackets and brake shaft have been fitted. Unfortunately the last piece of the brake gear jigsaw, the front brake shaft, is badly worn and needs quite a bit of work to recover it.

Currently all of the tender pipework is being cleaned and prepped for fitting but will require some adjustment to fit the new tank arrangement.

On the loco, two new water control spindles have been machined for the injector water valves and worn sealing faces skimmed on the regulator valve seat, regulator valve and bronze clack valve seats.

A long term fill in job which has just been completed has been the manufacture of four new headcode discs to the original pattern, to replace our missing (and incorrect) set, which we had when the loco last ran.

Boiler

There is no work to report on the boiler as it is currently in store while Tornado is being overhauled at our contractors works.
