Tender

Steel sections have been acquired for the four new tender brake pull rod support brackets.

There is no original drawing for the brackets for our type of tender tank, so the steel parts have been tack welded together, roller positions marked and the two centre brackets drilled and trial fitted.

The worn journals on the tender front brake shaft have been skimmed in a lathe to a consistent diameter, the next task is to machine steel sleeves to fit to the journals, to restore them to original size.

Locomotive

On the locomotive, the injector control wheels and spindles have been fitted and the manifold shut off valve components cleaned, ready for refurbishment.

We have made a start on replacing the stolen items. The tender hand brake crank arm for the front brake shaft has been ordered, as have forgings for three valve gear parts.

We have also been going through all the pipework drawings to determine which pipes are missing and at the same time, listing the associated pipe unions required. The few remaining pipes have also been checked to ensure that they are broadly the same as the drawings and to record whether they have male or female unions, so that we can order the correct connecting parts.

We have also made offers on a number of spare parts held by other loco groups and individuals.
