Tender

Work on the tender continues, with the two centre brake rod support brackets trimmed to final size and painted. The other two support brackets will be finished once the brake rods to the brake shafts are fitted, but unfortunately this can’t be done until replacement brake slack adjusters are acquired, to replace the stolen ones.

Machining of the sleeves for the front brake shaft journals will be completed shortly, once these are fitted there is just some welding required to finish this component. Castings for the brake shaft bearing brackets have been received and bronze purchased to make the bearings themselves.

The two vacuum brake cylinders have been cleaned and material acquired to make the four new trunnion bearings that support these parts and allow them to pivot. We have also produced a drawing for new guard irons, to replace the damaged originals.

Locomotive

On the locomotive, we have thoroughly cleaned the middle connecting rod and have acquired a spare big end clip to replace the stolen one. This is one of the parts that retain the big end bearing in the connecting rod end.

We have also purchased a number of other spare parts to replace some of the stolen locomotive components, but there is still much work to do on this front.
